Cronin - Bank of Love - Artwork

Irish indie band Cronin has been busy during these corona times. They released mini album A View From The Next Door (with remixes of old songs), played with U2 and Glen Hansard in Ireland’s The Late Late Show special to raise money for The Simon Community, and appeared in the Julien Temple Documentary ‘Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan’. Now they come up with new work for the first time in two years: ‘Bank of Love’.

A love song that you can wash the dishes to

Mick Cronin about the process: “This was one of the first songs we started jamming to get the juices flowing after not seeing each other for 3 months when the first lockdown was lifted last year. We wanted to get back to the feeling of being a young band playing songs in a garage.

We were listening to a lot of Lou Reed’s Transformer, Richard Hawley, Jarv Is. We started it the night Scott Walker died and it took another form with the pandemic. A love song that you can wash the dishes to.”

Bank of Love was recorded at Transmission Rooms, Drumlish, Co Longford by Mick Cronin. Mixed by Ger McDonnell (U2, Manic Street Preachers) and Mastered by Richard Dowling at WAV Mastering, Limerick. It is the first single from the new album, scheduled to be released in mid-2021. This will be the second album after the critically acclaimed debut album The First Kiss of Love.

A few nice words on Cronin:

“Touches of Neil Diamond, Nick Cave, Richard Ashcroft.”

Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio 6

“Pure Celtic Soul.”

Shane MacGowan, The Pogues

New video for Cronin’s “There’s A Darkness” https://www.gentlemenrecordings.com/new-video-cronin-theres-a-darkness/ https://www.gentlemenrecordings.com/new-video-cronin-theres-a-darkness/#respond Tue, 22 Sep 2020 10:55:16 +0000 https://www.gentlemenrecordings.com/?p=6829 On Friday July 3rd we released Cronin‘s mini-album A View From The Next Room. One of the most populair songs from this album, “There’s A Darkness”, has got a music video now.

The mini-album has six songs. So far “There’s A Darkness” has received the most streams of all the songs from that album. So, that is now rewarded with a stylish clip. “Several Perceptions”, the first single from A View From The Next Room, already got a clip before.

The theme ‘darkness’ is clearly included in the video. But it has also a cool and relaxed atmosphere in it. The footage in the videoclip is composed of short videos on their tour in Norway, Dublin’s Olympia, The Stables Mullingar and some additional footage from Transmission Rooms Studio in Drumlish.

The band has received a lot of praise before. Johnny Depp, for example, is very fond of the Irish. Nick Cave also had only positive words: “You sound like me, but in tune.”

Cronin albumcover

Friday July 3rd Irish indieband Cronin released their new mini-album. It contains pre-existing songs, but those are unreleased remixes, stripped down versions and oddities. The results are magnificent!

With the recording of follow up to their critically acclaimed debut currently on hold with the Covid 19 lockdown Irish band Cronin release this mini-album.

Mick Cronin comments: “some of these mixes have been about for a some time and others are relatively fresh. With us unable to work in the studio we though now would be a good time to release these as a mini album. It’s a diverse mix compared to our releases so far, it shows another side of what we have in our heads.”

With a little help from their friends

Steve Wickham (The Waterboys) features on 2 tacks on Violin as does Vyv Long (Damien Rice) on cello and Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Gallon Drunk) string arrangement is even more haunting on the striped down version.

Production help came from long time collaborators Karl Odlum (Glen Hansard, The Frames) and Ger McDonnell (U2, Manic Street Preachers).

Cover art is a photo taken from an out house at Transmission Rooms by renownd photographer, DJ  and Oasis brother Paul Gallagher form a recent visit.

The digital album is out now. Want a copy of it? Get it here in our shop.

Cronin have just dropped a new ‘snipe mix’ of the single “Several Perceptions”. It’s a taster of their upcoming mini album, A View From The Next Room, due out July 3rd.

The brand new album delivers the band’s “most experimental and diverse” set of songs to date. The album title is a reference to the Henry Scott Holland poem Death Is Nothing at All. Following their work on Cronin’s critically acclaimed debut album The First Kiss of Love, Karl Odlum (Glen Hansard, The Frames), Ger McDonnell (U2, Manic Street Preachers) and Mick Cronin return as producers.

Cronin have also brought in outside instrumentalists and special guests like The Waterboys, whose violinist Steve Wickham features on two tracks. In addition, Damien Rice cello player Vivienne Long features on track Need and Terry Edwards (PJ Harvey, Gallon Drunk) on the remix of Little London.

Across the album’s six interrogative tracks the band displays inspired lyrics, deep orchestral arrangements and lifting hooks.
