Announcing the release of ‘November 2nd’ the second album by NOVEMBER, the group formed by Bernard Trontin , drummer with The Young Gods and film soundtrack composer and Simon Huw Jones, singer and lyricist of and also the trees. November 2nd will be released on March 22nd, and will be available on vinyl, cd and digital download.
‘November 2nd‘ subtly turns from the urban ‘Midnight rain’ to the mountains of ‘The Foehn and the fountain’ and onwards into other sound and landscapes… stark minimalism is followed by atmospheric ballads, occasionally showing glimpses of ‘And also the trees’ here and ‘The young Gods’ there but always keeping the separate identity and originality that is NOVEMBER.
The group NOVEMBER was created in Geneva where Bernard Trontin, a Frenchman but lifelong resident of the Swiss city met Simon Jones shortly after he moved there from England in the early 2000’s. An initial idea of Jones recording a vocal for a single track on an album of Trontin’s music quickly changed as it became clear that when combined, their unusual musical talents created a unique and powerful chemistry. Their first, self title album soon followed.
Released in 2007 ‘NOVEMBER’ was well received by press and public alike. They played live just once, a memorable sell out performance as part of La Bätie Festival in Geneva. The use of the percussive instrument the ‘Hang’ on ‘November 2nd ‘ and the addition of other acoustic instruments (and musicians) coupled with an even stronger desire to bring their music to life on stage will open up new possibilities for live performances when they plan to tour next autumn.

Op ‘November 2nd’ komen verschillende landschappen voorbij. Van de stedelijke omgeving van ‘Midnight Rain’ richting de bergen van ‘The Foehn and The Fountain’ en andere gebieden met bijpassende geluiden. Minimalisme wordt opgevolgd door sfeervolle ballades. Met hier en daar een scheutje van And Also The Trees en The Young Gods, maar vooral toch met het sterke eigen geluid en de eigenheid van November. Ontstaan NOVEMBER NOVEMBER werd gevormd in het Zwitserse Geneve. Hier liep Bernard Trontin, Fransman van origine maar jarenlang inwoner van de stad, Simon Jones tegen het lijf. Jones verhuisde naar de stad nadat hij in de vroege jaren 2000 thuisland Engeland had verlaten. Jones wilde in eerste instantie alleen de vocalen van een losse single inzingen, maar al snel bedacht hij zich. Eenmaal samen werd het direct duidelijk dat hun muzikale talenten samen garant stonden voor een unieke en krachtige chemie. Al snel volgde het debuutalbum. Met dat album – uitgekomen in 2007 – werd NOVEMBER zowel door pers als door publiek erg goed ontvangen. Slechts één keer speelden ze live. Een nooit meer te vergeten uitverkocht optreden op het La Bätie Festival in Geneve. Dat gaat nu anders zijn. Door een extra percussie-instrument, wat extra akoestische instrumenten én extra muzikanten wordt het wel heel verleidelijk om meer live te gaan spelen. Dit staat voor najaar 2019 in de planning. |
Kreeg de CD vandaag binnen en hij staat op repeat! Wat een fantastisch verstilde muziek. Simon zingt nauwelijks, maar draagt meer voor (zoals meer de laatste jaren). Prachtig.
